When Close to my Heart first released these little animal sets, I had an idea to make a deck of cards out of them.
These sets are available until the end of August 2019.
After a bit of research into children’s card games, it turns out you can make a card game with 11 animal stamps.
I fiddled around with a few prototypes and finally decided a printable card was the best option.
If you’re following along here’s how I made them.
First download the PDF of the card design.
If you've purchased the stamp set through my online store you'll get access to the PDF for Free.
If not you can purchase it for AUD$5 here:
Then print on white cardstock.
Laser printers will work better as bubblejet printers tend to run if they get wet, but if that’s all you have it will still work.
Once you’ve printed the card bases have the children stamp the animals on the right card for each animal.
Then they can colour them in.
Once they’ve finished colouring in the animals, you're ready to stick the backing patterned card stock to the back. This will hide any ink that has bled through when colouring and make the backs of the cards uniform so you can't distinguish the cards and cheat!... I grew up with brothers and learnt the hard way.
After you’ve stuck the two sheets of card together you can use a laminator pouch and laminate the sheets. This will make them extra durable, again, brothers!
Once they’ve been laminated you can trim the cards to the edge of the coloured border. The end card size will be approximately 3 ½ x 2 ½ inches.
Now you’re ready to play!
We’ve had fun playing, Snap, Go Fish! And Animal Rummy. Just search google for children’s card games and see what other games you can play with this deck of cards.
